A distinct voice and artistic style, Ms.Holmes is a B.C. born singer/songwriter living and performing in Montreal, QC.Influenced by the music of Jimi Hendrix, Billie Holiday and Ani Difranco, Ms.Holmes plays guitar fingerstyle. Her crystal clear vocals are tinted with jazz and at times country, calling to mind Norah Jones.
Self described as “soulful, not a soul singer” Ms.Holmes came on the music scene in 2005. For three years she contributed her bass lines, songs and energy, to the funk rock group The Southern Chakras.
Her solo work consists of two independently released e.p.s “Love and Vices” (2009), “As easy as it seems” (2013) as well as the single and music video “Get out cha’ own way” (2014). Her collaborators include members of Nomadic Massive, Kalmunity and Ben Caplan.
The beginning of 2015 marks the release of Ms.Holmes’ debut album “TEN”. The record was supported by a successful crowdfunding campaign that surpassed it’s goal through Kickstarter.com. Produced alongside the Félix Leclerc Prize nominated Paul Cargnello, “TEN” features heavy layers of percussion and vocal harmonies from song to song. From nostalgic Orbison inspired ballads to radio ready folk pop, Holmes’ compositions are simple and beautiful. Her signature roots, blues and jazz sound is ever-present on the album and paints a true picture of Ms.Holmes as an artist.
